Tech Talks: Video Teasers for the Schulich Tech MBA Program

At ED_PARA Education Communications, we had the exciting task of creating promotional video teasers for the Schulich School of Business Tech MBA program. Our mandate was clear: produce dynamic content that mirrored the energy and innovation of this future-forward program.

The Schulich Tech MBA program is designed for tech-savvy business leaders, blending rigorous academics with practical tech applications. Our goal was to showcase this unique blend in a way that would both inform and inspire potential students. To do this, we cut short interviews with program professors Chris Carder, Minerva Cernea, Jamey Gordon, Irene Henriques, Henry Kim, and Pauline Shum-Nolan into high-energy pieces that focused on the content taught in the program’s curriculum while also opening up onto broader insights into how business is changing today and will keep evolving.

Our video creation strategy combined several elements:

Black and White Visuals: We started with black and white imagery to create interest and intrigue right from the intro. Coupling monochrome visuals with a mix of organic camerawork and fast movements, we established a dynamic style that matched the branding provided by the ad agency. This set the tone for the teasers, making them visually captivating. As we transitioned into the core content, we shifted to slightly animated yellow title cards and then to vibrant, people-focused colour interviews.

Modern Typography: No Centred text or lowerthird boxes here. Instead, we pushed sans-serif bold text to the corners and directly overlaid it onto the image in larger-than-usual font sizes, creating a starker, more modern treatment. Then, by aggressively cutting on beats, we manipulated the viewer’s eyes toward the information for a brief moment before moving on.

Alternate Angle: Adding an additional handheld, unconventional camera angle to the traditional tripod-mounted master + closeup interview setup, we were able to really immerse the viewer. Snap zooms, pans, tilts, unusual compositions, and more made for a more tactile, lively video.

Insights-Focused Interviews: As mentioned earlier, we emphasized the thought leadership component of the program by focusing on its people - and their exceptional intellectual abilities. Being that the Schulich School of Business is a highly-ranked leader in the field of business education, we wanted to ensure that we gave space to the professors to not only sell the program but to share insights on topics they are experts. This way, we would also open up a dialogue on what the future of business might look like, a key part of what the program itself explores.

The Future of Education

The result of our work with the Schulich Tech MBA team was a series of short, impactful teasers that vividly showcased the excitement around the launch of Schulich’s Tech MBA program. We're proud to have highlighted such a transformative program and, as always, look forward to more opportunities to create original, impactful educational content.
